Rhine Promenade in Bad Säckingen

Whoever takes a stroll along the Rhine Promenade in Bad Säckingen will have twice as much to behold: On the one side, the Rhine River with its wooden bridge and the Swiss riverside in the background. On the other side, your own side, the Gallus Tower and the Diebsturm (‘Thief’s Tower’). And in between, the massive city walls which continue to defy floods until today and protect the town’s inhabitants.

The Gallus Tower, with its still impressively thick walls and shooting slits used to serve as protection against water and enemies. When following the path along the Rhine River you come upon the Diebsturm (‘Thief’s Tower). Also constructed in a circular shape, it is more delicate and fine in its appearance.

However, for many years it was also a part of the city wall. Today it is a part of the castle park and thanks to suitable reconstruction measures, it can be used for wedding ceremonies and other events. Its romantic atmosphere and the view of the wooden bridge make it a festive attraction with the city’s limits.

Take the passenger ship ‘Trumpeter of Säckingen’ down the Rhine and enjoy our beautiful landscape from the water.
